*New Editor | Gerald M. Schneeweiss, subject editor for molecular systematics
We would like to welcome Gerald M. Schneeweiss as new subject editor for molecular systematics at Nordic Journal of Botany! Gerald is an Associate Professor at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research at the University of Vienna, where he studies the evolution, systematics and biogeography of flowering plants. His work bridges classical taxonomy and field-based floristics with state-of-the-art molecular methods, including phylogenetics, phylogeography, cytogenetics and genome evolution. His research includes evolutionary history and investigating how polyploidy and chromosome variation contribute to speciation in mountain flora. He also explores how past climate shifts and geographic isolation have shaped the distribution and biodiversity of alpine species. His research contributes both to fundamental knowledge in evolutionary botany and to conservation-relevant insights about fragile mountain ecosystems.

Nordic Journal of Botany is an international Open Access journal, proudly owned by the Nordic Society Oikos. We publish research on plant and fungal ecology, evolution, conservation, biogeography, and taxonomy, and we welcome cross-disciplinary research such as human-plant relations. We explore trending topics in plant sciences and publish research from both established experts and early-career researchers. Learn more about NJB.
